The Chocolate Tree: A Chocolate Lover’s Paradise

The Chocolate Tree

By Hannah Morris | If you’re part of the mass population that loves ‘everything chocolate’, The Chocolate Tree is certainly the place for you. The local confectionery was opened in 1980 first as a hobby of Pat Green – eventually manufacturing itself into the small town business it is today that has withstood the test of time over the last three decades.

The Chocolate Tree has a nationwide status, as well as a reputation of some of the best chocolates in the South.

Located on Carteret Street in historic downtown Beaufort, this particular shop is hard to miss due to the powerful fragrance filling the area. If you are within a block of the shop, the aroma of fresh melted chocolate lures you in through the front door where you are greeted by a friendly staff that is more than willing to assist you with finding your specific chocolate needs.

When you enter The Chocolate Tree, that sweet smell hits you, and almost blends into your very being as your senses are heightened quite a bit, and it makes you, well,  happy.  (Think about it the next time you visit the shop!)

Inside, you can visually appreciate the rows of over 60 assorted chocolate goodies lined up on display with oodles of milk and dark chocolate delights ranging from classic gift varieties to nuts and chews, as well as old time favorites like tiger and bear claws. If chocolate isn’t your thing, or you are watching your sugar levels, there are also plenty of brittles, flavored fudges, and even sugar free chocolates that taste just like the real deal.

They love to feature seasonal treats in addition to their extensive year-long stock. Locals anxiously await their caramel apples in the fall and on special occasions.  And, it’s no secret that nothing says springtime in the Lowcountry quite like our beloved fresh local strawberries. Adding chocolate to fruit truly is a work of art; so, it’s no surprise that these particular concoctions are one of everyone’s homegrown seasonal favorites.

Also, once a year in August, The Chocolate Tree offers a super fun All You Can Eat Night that’s easy on the wallet and friend & family perfect. Of course, wine is served and chocolate lovers of all ages pack the house in two separate sessions of chocolate bliss.

This is a perfect idea for holidays and anniversaries, or even just to satisfy the sweet tooth of your favorite chocoholic.
