Springtime is the best time in Beaufort

I’ll walk out of my house one day this week and notice something is different. Something will strike me, in a happy way, that says things are changing around here.  Colors are more vivid, and the songs of the Carolina Wren are sweeter and livelier.  My blue car appears green under the sheet of pollen, and I make a mental note to stock up on allergy medication.  My energy level is all at once replenished by the day.

No, this is not a new medication or a crazy new healthy diet.

It’s Springtime in Beaufort, that time of year that sheds the bitterly cold winds and grey skies of the winter and thrusts us all back outside, where for months we all longed to be.

Springtime is a time for renewal, rebirth and new beginnings.

The oyster season may be coming to a close, but here comes the beginning of Beaufort’s favorite time of year. Springtime brings back local produce such as succulent strawberries.

Springtime means everywhere you turn, the colors of Beaufort’s magnificent gardens jump out at you.
Springtime brings back the beach and the sandbar, and some fantastic fishing.
Warmer water temperatures have everyone getting their boats out on the water.
Stock up on the bug spray, as the “no-see-ums” are back with a vengeance.

Spring also marks the kickoff of the baseball season, Relay for Life, soft shell crabs, KidFest, and it’s also a time to work on your golf swing.

While there is really no designated “rainy” season in Beaufort, springtime often brings with it increased precipitation for much of the season.  Spring showers can be very refreshing with the warmer temperatures, and, of course, facilitate the blooming of azaleas, hydrangeas, daffodils, gardenias and honeysuckle, just to name a few.

Whether you’re new to Beaufort or have been here for years, this is the best time of year to get outside and be active.

The summer’s heat and humidity are often too much for even some Beaufort natives, but the spring offers a much more tolerable temperature.  Beaufort is offering more local produce markets which fail to disappoint.  My childhood is filled with years of scouring the fields at Dempsey Farms U Pick for the perfect strawberries, and my family still fills their buckets every April.

Beaufort’s natural beauty is truly at its best this time of year, so get out there and soak it up!
