Southern Living Magazine has announced its first ever ‘Best Awards’, and beautiful Beaufort is at the top collecting the title Best Small Town in the South.
Yes…that’s the entire south. Not ust a part of the south or in South Carolina, but ALL of the south.
Feels good doesn’t it?
For it’s description of just exactly what Beaufort is, SL welcomed novelist Cassandra King, and she said, “Beaufort is more than a vacation spot or a photo op,” . “It’s literally and figuratively halfway between Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia—not as grand as Charleston or as funky as Savannah but a homey, comfortable in between.” (FYI, it’s pronounced “BEW-fert.”)
“No matter where you’re from, where you’ve been or where you’re going, Beaufort feels like home,” King added.
Rounding out the Top 10:
2. Fredericksburg, Texas
3. Charlottesville, Va.
4. Dahlonega, Ga.
5. Beaufort, N.C. (pronounced Bho-fert)
6. Fernandina Beach, Fla.
7. Auburn, Ala.
8. Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
9. Florence, Ala.
10. Madison. Ga.
We’ve been to a few of these spots. While each are amazing and have their own wonderful southern qualities, well, they’re just not Beaufort.
Beaufort isn’t new to these accolades. Regularly named the healthiest county in South Carolina, it’s famed Hunting Island gets constant accolades as a best beach in the U.S. and it’s also a perennial top ten contender as Best Place to Retire as well.
A few years ago, Beaufort was named Happiest Seaside Town in America by Coastal Living Magazine, and this one is right up there along side of that.
