Free family movie nights have returned to downtown Beaufort! The University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Community Outreach department has launched the school’s first ever Movies on the Lawn Series. The free movies are being shown on select Friday evenings on the front lawn of USCB’s Center for the Arts on Carteret Street in downtown.
The school started the series in September with Mrs. Doubtfire, and as the holiday season ramps us, they will be showing Elf on November 30. After a winter break, the series picks up again in Spring 2019 with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Forrest Gump.
“We’re thrilled about this,” said Erica Martin and Staci Breton, Community Outreach Program Administrators and co-organizers of the movie series. “We’ve been wanting to do this for awhile and it’s nice to see our office small-talk has become a reality.”
“Thanks to our generous local sponsors we are able to provide family fun time that is free for the Beaufort community. We hope you’ll join us and our families under the stars at USCB Beaufort campus.”
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen an event like this in downtown. Several family movies were shown at the downtown waterfront several years ago, but it’s something that locals have missed.
Organizers are inviting families and children from all over Beaufort to join them for an evening of FREE outdoor, family entertainment. It is suggested that you bring a chair and a blanket to enjoy the fun. Popcorn (while it lasts) will be provided. You are welcome to bring snacks and drinks, but please remember that if you carry it in, please carry it out. Sorry, no pets or alcohol allowed. Movies will begin at dusk and are subject to change due to weather.
