Make a SPLASH at the Beaufort River Swim

By Kelley Luikey |  Come take the plunge into the Beaufort River this Saturday to benefit the YMCA of Beaufort County’s Learn to Swim program.
Swimmers will receive help from the current as they test their open water skills during the three mile course. The Beaufort River Swim is digitally timed and begins at the Port Royal Landing Marina, participants will navigate their way along the shoreline and cross the finish line in downtown Beaufort.

The race attracts swimmers of all levels and last year’s competition saw athletes from ages 14 to 68 and a total of 103 finishers. The 2011 swim raised $2,000, providing scholarships for children who otherwise may not have access to swim lessons. Event organizer Rick Simonds says they hope to attract 125 swimmers this year and raise even more money; allowing the Y to increase the availability of swim instruction for kids in our area.
