Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity raises walls on 25th Anniversary house

Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity raised the walls on another local home build last weekend at 904 Greene Street in the city’s Northwest quadrant. When completed, Brandi Hussman will be the proud homeowner of the new house which was sponsored by Lowcountry Real Estate and CBC National Bank.

The wall raising also marks the 49th and 50th homes Lowcountry Habitat has constructed in our area, with two homes going up next to each other on two separate lots on Greene Street.

The mood was jubilant as volunteers got together for the wall-raising on Saturday.  With the support of the Beaufort community working together to make this project a reality, the 25th Anniversary Build will provide a hand-up to homeownership to another Habitat Family Partner.  Brandi is a single mother with one child who also has guardianship of her nephew and two nieces that will join them living in their new home on Greene Street.

Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.  Habitat ReStores were developed to provide Habitat affiliates with another income stream for building houses while providing a place where still useful building materials and supplies can be recycled and gently-used home furnishings can be resold to new owners reducing the burden on local landfills.
