Get outside and band hop this weekend

By Mary Ellen Thompson | As the weather heats up in Beaufort so does the opportunity to get outside and enjoy some great local music. We’re going to start Band Hopping this week with a flying leap to Fat Patties on Thursday night to hear the Remnants, from 7 – 9. Matt Eckstein will be at Q on Bay between 8 and 11.

Friday requires some hops, skips, and jumps starting at Lowcountry Produce Market and Cafe at 6:00 until 9 with the Sometimes Later Band, a hop over to Bricks on Boundary between 7 – 9:30 for a song or two by SWIG, then a skip to the Back Porch Grill between 7:30 and 10:30 for some shakin’-up music by the Warsaw Island Boys, and jump on out to the Island and catch Kirk Dempsey and the Bull Grapes at the Foolish Frog between 7 and 11:00. Again, for those who have springs attached to their amphibious feet – catch Taco Donkey back in town at Q on Bay until way after midnight.

Now Saturday is another matter, you will not need to hop at all – you can cruise Pickin By The River in the waterfront park in the afternoon between noon and five, and then simply get yourselves over to Port Royal for Street Music on Paris Avenue at 6:00 to catch the amazing Reckless Mercy show. Bring: your lawn chairs, your coolers, your friends, your clapping hands, to welcome this talented and powerful band! After that, you’re on your own because their voices will stay in your head for the rest of the night.

Sunday, as we know is a walk, don’t hop, day starting with Party for the Cure, a Cancer Research benefit at Hemingway’s starting at noon and going for the duration of the afternoon; the Rose Family Band, and Amber and the Fossils (at 3:00) are a few who will be playing. If you feel like taking a stroll, Jeff Beasley will be Q on Bay between 1:30 and 4:30, and the perfect end to the weekend is Vic Varner and Friends, who will be at Saltus River Grill in the evening playing for your pleasure between 6:30 and 9pm.
