Through a partnership with the Beaufort County School District and the Beaufort County library system, Sodexo’s Lowcountry Cruzer food truck is serving free lunch to children under 18 through July 20th.
The truck visits the three northern Beaufort County area libraries each day for about 45 minutes with operator Jovanna Griffin greeting each child with a healthy smile, and a healthy plate. Families are then able to sit at folding tables that are set up for lunchtime.
The truck makes its stops at the St. Helena branch library from 10:45 to 1130am the Beaufort branch library from noon to 12:45pm and the Lobeco branch library from 130 to 215pm on weekdays. Each stop is scheduled to last about 45 minutes.
The free lunch program is timed right along with the library’s summer reading program which draws hundreds of kids to each library location each summer season.
The truck is part of the Sodexo Foundation to Stop hunger. The Foundation works to ensure that every child in the United States, especially those most at-risk, grows up with dependable access to enough nutritious food to enable them to lead a healthy, productive life.
