Reconstruction…The Untold Story

The true story of the newly freed Gullahs, a people determined to persevere out of the bondage of slavery to self-governing and full citizenship from the ashes of the American Civil War. Award-winning master storyteller, Aunt Pearlie Sue brings this profound era of American History alive that was birthed on the Sea Islands of Beaufort County, South Carolina.

Anita Singleton-Prather is the owner of ASE’-Gullah Education, LLC; Founder & Artistic Director of Gullah Kinfolk musical ensemble and Gullah Traveling Theater Inc. a non- profit musical theater production company established for expanding the mission of educating about Beaufort County South Carolina Sea Islands unique rich GULLAH Culture…the GENESIS, the TAPROOT of African American History.

Her stage character, “Aunt Pearlie Sue,” is based on Grandma Rosa Singleton… a very proud matriarch of our family and the community.
