That came quick. Halloween was barely 12 hours gone and Beaufort’s public works crews began hanging holiday decorations on street light poles in downtown on Wednesday. With Thanksgiving just around the corner and Christmas only some 53 days away, the holidays are definitely upon us.

Bay Street, between Newcastle and Carteret streets, is usually the first areas to be dressed for the winter holidays. Crews will expand the decorations throughout the downtown area in coming days.

Keep your eye out. During the installation of the banners along our streets, parking spaces adjacent to the street light pole will be blocked off to allow crews to use their equipment to lift and attach the decorations.

Once the decorations are in place on a street light pole, the crews will relocate and open the affected parking spaces to visitors.

Of note: The holiday banners that are usually used also remind us to shop local during the season. Beaufort proudly possesses a ‘shop local’ movement, highlighted by a Small Business Saturday event in downtown on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
