Christmas Boat Parade lights up the Beaufort River
What must have been half of Beaufort converged on downtown’s Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park on Saturday night to catch this year’s installment of the annual Light Up the Night Christmas Boat Parade, the second of three consecutive fun community holiday events this weekend.
Starting at the Port Royal Landing Marina, the boats made their way along the river to the park’s seawall in downtown and made a few passes, dishing out Christmas cheer and bantering back and forth with the audience. Boats of all kinds participated, glowing brightly and blowing horns at the spectators as their multi-colored lights reflected in the water of the Intra-Coastal Waterway.
Anywhere you could affix a string of lights to on a boat was covered. We saw boats decorated with angels, palm trees, snowmen and even Santa himself was in one of the boats.
Such a unique community event, the parade is one of the many things that make living in our part of the Lowcountry so special.
The Christmas Boat Parade is the second of three events this weekend in downtown Beaufort that always seem to get even the biggest grinches in the holiday spirit. Don’t miss the annual Christmas Parade through downtown on Sunday at 3pm.
