Beaufort Kennel Club hosts Responsible Dog Ownership Day event on Sept 21st

Lots of people own dogs. But are they “Responsible Dog Owners”? Throughout the month of September, the American Kennel Club is encouraging dog clubs to hold events across the country that promote “responsible dog ownership”. The Beaufort Kennel Club is sponsoring such an event on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Naval Heritage Park next to the Port Royal Farmers Market from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

The Beaufort Kennel Club will be offering Canine Good Citizen testing for only $10. For more information about the exercises that comprise this test, please click here: http://images.akc.org/pdf/cgc/GK9GC1.pdf

All dogs, purebred and mixed breed, are eligible to be tested for their Canine Good Citizen certificate. Rebecca Bass, obedience Beaufort Kennel Clubinstructor, commented, “One of the primary reasons that dogs wind up in shelters is because they have not been obedience trained. We want to emphasize how responsible dog owners can work with their dogs to train and socialize them so that they become “canine good citizens.”

In addition, the local chapter of Therapy Dogs International will be on hand to provide information on the great things that therapy dogs do and the steps required to have your dog certified as a therapy dog.

Port Royal Veterinary Hospital’s Dr. Campbell will offer free ear and dental exams as well as micro-chipping at the discounted price of $35.

Monthly Beaufort Kennel Club meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 102 Heronwyck Plantation Drive, Beaufort, SC. For more information, please call Leslie Kern, Club Secretary, at 843.509.1903. We welcome guests who are dog enthusiasts and hope you will come join us!
