Beaufort's local bands celebrated at Music Fest

The inaugural Beaufort Homegrown Music Fest kicked off Friday afternoon on an outside stage right smack on the front lawn of the Center for the Arts building with a total of 8 bands taking the stage in a celebration of local music and the arts.

With frisbees flying and camp chairs, blankets and some great food in place, local soloist Eric Daubert opened the festival and was followed by a fun and energetic, fan-rousing performance by the Parris Island Marine Jazz Band. The afternoon included fantastic performances by 2 Far Gone, Katie McAllister, and a great set by Amber & the Fossils; while the evening saw some serious blues from the Groovetones, tons of fun with The Brewer Band and then Bootless played a heavier-edged set of their country/rock style to close out the night.

The festival continues on Saturday starting at 1pm, with afternoon outdoor performances by Shark Rodeo, Sometimes Later Band, Irene Goodnight and Redemption House along with a Children’s Concert by Rick Hubbard the Kazoobie Guy. The evening, at only $10 a ticket, gets you an up close seat to see The Sweetgrass Angels, Reckless Mercy and The Bull Grapes.

The festival includes an outdoor Arts, Crafts and Vendor Fair and a silent auction. Food is cooked up for the event by Moe’s Southwest Grill, Smokin’ Planks BBQ, Boundary Street Cafe, and Groucho’s Deli, with the Lowcountry Jaycees pouring the brew.

All proceeds of the festival benefit USCB Center for the Arts programming.
