Band hop around Beaufort this weekend
By Mary Ellen Thompson | Another busy busy weekend on the music front – especially with the First Friday Artwalk, A Taste of Beaufort, and the Kentucky Derby also going on – let’s hope we can take off our frog shoes and hop around in our own bare feet.
Tonight – Thursday: The Bull Grapes at Q on Bay from 8 – 11.
Friday: Start at Lowcountry Produce Market and Cafe at 6:00 ( til 9) with the Sometimes Later Band; swing by Bricks on Boundary and hear SWIG between 7:00 and 9:30; land for a bit at the Back Porch Grill with Mark Bonds from 7:30 – 10:30; and then hop on out to the Foolish Frog for a special treat – Kirk Dempsey, Beek Webb, and Scott Kinsey will be singing sea shanties from 7 – 11. For those still hale and hearty, the Hypnotics will be at Q on Bay from 9:30 until the morning hours.
Saturday holds great promise for a bit of bourbon and a side bet with Kentucky Derby Parties at the Back Porch Grill from 5 – 8 (there won’t be any music at the Back Porch Grill but there are plenty of tv’s on which you can watch the race), and Boondocks Restaurant (who has new restaurant owners as of today) with a Kentucky Derby Party there also starting at 5:00 and a live performance by Amber & the Fossils immediately following. When your hat comes off, and you’ve stuffed your Derby winnings into your pocket – head to the Foolish Frog for Lucia and Levi from 7 – 11.
For the late nighters – Eric Daubert will sing from 9:30 into the morning hours at Q on Bay.
Sunday afternoon is the perfect time to have a bit of late brunch and some Bloody Mary’s at Q on Bay while Jeff Beasley plays from 1:30 – 4:30 and then walk down the street and around the corner (no hopping allowed on Sundays) to Breakwater Restaurant and Bar for Tapas and Tunes which is a special event to benefit the Spanish Moss Trail. Blue Mudd will be playing while snacks and cocktails are served from 5:30 to 8:00, $45 per person – call for reservations 843-379-0052; space is limited!
With so many choices, it’s a good thing we can get from one to another in only a hop, skip and a jump. Enjoy the weekend!
