As local as it gets: Pick Pocket Plantation's Holiday Bazaar

By Ty Snowden | It doesn’t get much more local than Pick Pocket Plantation.  Saturday’s Holiday Bazaar brought a lot of fun for all ages.  Not only was there a four wheeler barrel ride for the kids, there were booths varying from kettle corn, Kansas City steak soup, bread, pecans, cane syrup, apple butter, homemade natural soaps, charm bracelets, vintage bottle cap earrings, cookies, (exhale then inhale again) pumpkin butter, pickled asparagus, black eyed pea relish, local honey, and Christmas decor.

My favorite booth of all though was run by Port Royal natives, Lynn and Gordon. While chatting with Lynn, she pointed out that, learning to spin her own yarn only took her a few weeks to get the hang of it. While her wheel comes from Canada, all of her wool comes from her niece and nephews sheep who live southwest of Chicago. It warmed my heart knowing that not only does Miss Lynn take interest in this, but her husband, Gordon helps as well. Southern Spinner Yarn and Knits can definitely come in handy for this cold chill that has rolled in right before Christmas!

Pick Pocket Plantation has a Farmers Market that runs all year round as well!  From fresh local produce to local art, an array of vendors cover the grounds of this historic plantation home every Tuesday from 1 to 6pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.  Swing on by and pick up your fresh local produce, tour the historic plantation home, let the kids enjoy the wide range of activities, sit down, relax, eat good food and soak in the country air.  The Plantation is located at 93 Trask Farm Road, Beaufort, SC.
