Abandoned boats to be removed from Factory Creek starting Wednesday

The Beaufort County Public Works Department will be working with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office to assist the SC Department of Natural Resources with the removal of two abandoned boats at Whitehall Landing Boat Ramp on Lady’s Island.

The work area will be clearly marked with barricades and cones. One lane on the boat ramp will remain open so disruption to the public will be kept to a minimum. Work is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, and will take most of the day to complete.

Working with SCDNR, the two boats will be pulled onto the ramps and into a designated area of the parking lot, where they will be demolished and loaded onto trucks for disposal at the landfill. SCDNR will pay for all out-of-pocket costs, including landfill tipping fees and disposal of any hazardous materials.
