01 May This weekend’s A Taste of Beaufort festival: What you need to know
Each year, there’s a foodie’s delight in downtown’s Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park with the Taste of Beaufort festival. Imagine it: lots of Beaufort’s best dining options, serving up their best menu concoctions in the midst of downtown’s premier spot, with incredible music, community fellowship and fun.
That’s a delicious Lowcountry affair.
When you go this weekend, you’ll be one of the usual crowd of thousands who do, expect a few days of fun.
With nice weather for Friday evening and a very warm 84° day on Saturday, it’ll be a great time downtown.
Schedule of events
Friday the popular Arts & Craft Market will be open starting at Noon.
Friday night from 6 to 10pm, the Food & Beverage Booths are open and you can treat yourself to live music with popular local party band Deas Guyz in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park (they’re really fun!). The restaurants will be serving up some good stuff all evening, so come hungry.
Saturday begins bright and early with a Crab Crawl 5K Walk/Run for adults at 8am followed by a Kids Fun Run. Bay Street will be closed to traffic during the race, and the route takes it over the Woods Memorial Bridge to Lady’s Island and makes a right turn on Meridian Road. It then turns around and comes back once it reaches a certain point along Meridian, so watch out if you’ll be on the road and expect a delay.
After working up an appetite at the race, feel free to treat yourself to all the goodies Beaufort has to offer as some dozen or so local and well known Beaufort restaurants set up booths with samples of special dishes and favorites straight from their menus.
The main event on Saturday runs from 11am to 5pm. Attendees will be able to purchase tickets to trade for food and drink for $1 each. Each item at the booth will range between 2-7 tickets, so the cost is kept reasonably low for the quality of food you will be able to enjoy. In addition to the food, the Arts and Crafts festival will remain through Saturday evening, and the stage will house more live music all afternoon:
11-1 Mad Hatters
1-3 Mike Ponder & Steel Rail Express
3-5 Men In Beaufort
Participating Restaurants & Food Vendors:
Sea Eagle Market & Good Eats
Q on Bay
Hank’s Lowcountry She Crab Soup
Papaya Thai Cuisine
Coastal Shaved Ice
For public parking options, see the Downtown Beaufort Parking Map.
One of the best parts is the price of admission. A Taste of Beaufort is free to everyone, so its easy to find yourself hanging out with friends and having a great time eating some amazing food, listening to music, and meeting new people.
Yep, it’s the start of the downtown Beaufort Festival season, and we’re lookin’ forward to an awesome weekend at the Waterfront.
Bring. It. On.
