It’s beginning to look a lot like the holiday season and as the calendar hits December, Beaufort has a full slate of holiday activities planned and we found ten that you’d better not miss because they’re sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
The holidays are indeed a special time, and spending time here in Beaufort helps us make some wonderful memories.
1. The Annual Night on the Town Celebration, December 1st in Downtown Beaufort
This opening of the holiday shopping season takes place on the closed off streets of downtown Beaufort with a big ol’ Christmas street party. Shops will stay open late to welcome regular and new customers with special treats and the evening includes the City of Beaufort’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, food and drink, entertainment by community organizations, schools and churches, dancers and a rumored visit from Santa. 2. The 2017 Festival of Trees, December 1st through 3rd
The Festival of Trees to benefit FRIENDS of Caroline HOSPICE is one of Beaufort’s beloved holiday celebrations and the 2017 Festival continues a tradition that started 30 years ago. The big event kicks off with an Opening Gala on November 30th featuring a preview of 60+ beautifully and whimsically decorated trees, a silent auction, music, wine, beer and lots of food from some of Beaufort’s best local restaurants. Through the 3rd, there will be a special Frozen Saturday with a visit from Elsa & Anna from Disney’s ‘Frozen’, Festival Shoppes, school tours, Santa and his elves,Yoga Among the Trees, a Sunday Snow Day (with real snow to play in) and much more. 3. Light Up the Night Christmas Boat Parade, December 2nd in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park
Don’t miss the ‘Light Up the Night’ Christmas boat parade in the Beaufort River at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. A unique event to the Lowcountry, it’s one of the many things that make the holidays extra-special here in Beaufort. Enjoy decorated boats passing by the waterfront seawall in a parade of holiday color and enjoy some hot chocolate and the spirit of the Lowcountry. See more info here.
4. Port Royal’s Annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade, December 9th on Paris Avenue
Nothing says Lowcountry like a parade of decorated golf carts. Join the Town of Port Royal for the 8th Annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade through the Old Village Streets and enjoy a chili cook off, refreshments and a roaring bonfire at Live Oaks Park afterward.
5. Beaufort’s Annual Christmas Parade, December 3rd in downtown Beaufort
Bring the kids and enjoy the traditional Beaufort Christmas Parade on Sunday December 3rd at 3pm through the streets of downtown Beaufort. You’ll see floats, marching bands, groups, golf carts, and personal cars and trucks in the parade, all celebrating the holiday season. Keep your eye out for Santa himself with the Beaufort Fire Department. More information and parade route.
6. Parris Island Marine Band Annual Lowcountry Christmas Concert, TBD, Community Bible Church
Enjoy the Parris Island Marine Band in the 9th Annual Lowcountry Christmas Concert at Community Bible Church. An annual favorite, the Parris Island Marine Band will again be performing a variety of seasonal favorites in a magical concert, free for all ages. More information coming soon.
7. Snow Day at the 30th Annual Festival of Trees, December 3rd in Port Royal
This one’s for the kids. The Festival of Trees is hosting a snow day on Sunday, December 3rd from Noon to 230pm featuring some 20,000 lbs of snow and blowing it all over the place in two fields turning the area outside The Shed in Port Royal into a winter wonderland of fluffy, white snow.
8. Wreath Across America Wreath-laying at Beaufort National Cemetery, December 16th
Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as over 1,100 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. There will be thousands of wreaths will be laid at the Beaufort National Cemetery starting at 11am.
9. Annual Beaufort Railroaders Christmas Exhibit at the Beaufort Branch Library, December 12th through 16th
Model trains are returning for the 25th year as the Beaufort Railroaders are bringing big city and small town scenes to life at this year’s holiday display December 12th through the 16th. See vintage Lionel and American High Flyer model trains traverse around and through small town scenery and Christmas displays at the Beaufort Branch Library.
10. Inaugural Gingerbread 5K in Port Royal
Friends of Caroline presents the first anual Gingerbread 5K. This family friendly race will take place on December 16th at the Live Oaks Park in Port Royal. Your favorite Santa hat, elf outfit or any holiday costumes encouraged. Medals will be given to top three overall male and female finishers, as well as top three male and female finishers from each age group. Medals given to top three costume winners.
