Walking with Megan Howe

By Megan Howe  |   I am often amazed at the simplistic beauty of this life.
Yes, I speak of this life, right now, in which we are all living.  I feel thankful for the life that has graciously been given to me. Profoundly humbled by the sheer beauty of all.  I find on this particular day, as I write this, I am grateful for the sun.
How beautifying it is to feel the sun kiss my skin just before the start of spring.

I have to be honest, the idea that beauty is found everywhere used to baffle me, especially on days where I, myself, didn’t feel worthy of beauty or love. Dark days, I will call them. Days I saw no sun and felt no joy. Days which I held myself back and I kept myself down.

Finally, I felt a new day. I realized how much life I was wasting by resting in my dark days that I decided to make a change. I had to change my mind and I had to learn to love myself. I wanted to feel healthy in body, mind, and spirit.

I started to walk…

In the beginning, I walked for myself. I wanted to feel healthy and I wanted to be in shape.  So, every morning I woke early, prepared my pack of dogs, and we walked all around Beaufort. Over bridges, down streets, main roads, and roads not often traveled.  Within 6 months, I had accomplished my first goals and though I was noticeably different in health, size, and spirit, I knew I wasn’t finished.

I kept walking…

Almost two years later, I am still walking throughout Beaufort.
My senses feel more alive than they ever have before and I enjoy the new life I have had an active hand in creating.
I walk now, not only for myself, but for all around me.  Knowing I am now healthier in body, mind, and spirit, I walk to inspire peace and to share joy. I walk and witness pure beauty, within myself and all around, on a daily basis. With each step I take, I feel myself awaken and grow.

I invite each and every one of you, to take an active part in the creation of your life.
Whether it is enjoying 5 minutes of silence or a 2 hour walk, take time for your self, each and every day.
