USCB offers Friday night cultural double feature

By Libby Ricardo |  Those looking for something to do this Friday night need look no further than Carteret Street for the answer. The USCB Historic Beaufort Campus is offering a cultural double feature that will allow for some inspiration, reflection and laughter.

First, The Sea Islands Center Gallery will host an opening reception for “Migration,” an exhibition of fiber arts work by visiting artist TeaYoun Kim-Kassor. The reception is free and open to the public and complete with refreshments. Kim-Kassor has exhibited her work in museums in Japan, Italy and throughout the United States. Her work explores the question of migration from a cross-cultural viewpoint. The event runs from 5:30 to 7 at 1106 Carteret Street.

As one event closes, another begins. Following the reception, patrons can walk just to the other side of Carteret Street to the Center for the Arts for The USCB Department of English and Theater’s production of Talking With… by Jane Martin. This collection of monologues by female characters, directed by Assistant Professor of Theater George Pate and starring USCB students, examines the various roles that society asks woman to play with a mix of humor and pathos. The performance begins at 7:30. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for USCB faculty, students, and staff and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the CFA Box Office at 843.521.4145 or by visiting www.uscbcenterforthearts.com. Talking With… is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French.

Should you miss Friday’s offering, there is a second performance of Talking With… on Saturday at 7:30. “Migration” will be on display at the Sea Islands Center Gallery through February 21.
