Shakespeare Rep brings 'Almost, Maine' to life at USCB

By Anna Schaffer | Shakespeare Rep is bringing another show to life at USCB Center for the Arts. A quirky, contemporary comedy titled ‘Almost, Maine’ opens this Friday, October 10th and runs through the weekend and you won’t want to miss this cast and the stories they tell through the series of small vignettes written by Tony Award nominee, John Cariani.

Almost , Maine, a small town that is geographically in the Northeastern United States, is really every small town in America, including our own Beaufort. The cast of characters, make up the people you interact with everyday – they are your neighbor, teacher, co-worker, acquaintance from the gym, your best friend’s crazy brother. Each small story line offers insight into a decision you’ve made, a burden you’ve carried, a love you’ve discovered and list goes on.

Libby Ricardo (most recently in the local arts scene as the director of Grease at USCB) is making her Shakespeare Rep debut and captured the magic ofalmost, maine Almost, Maine, explaining the magic yet relatable experiences presented in this show: “I think to myself, yeah, that’s just like what I went through when I met my first love, fought with my boyfriend sophomore year of college, fell out of love with my first serious adult boyfriend, or when I pursued my husband and ultimately loved and fought and loved him everyday,” she said.

As you experience these scenarios the characters find themselves navigating through together – you will find yourself ‘rooting’ for their happiness, craving the energy between couples as they fall in love, and dreading what seems like the end for others. You’ll love this show – because it is your people, your stories and, your town.

The lifeblood of this show is the ensemble of actors presenting these stories, these people and the town of Almost, Maine, with incredible vibrancy . Veterans to the USCB stage and newcomers to Shakespeare Rep comprise this versatile cast that will have you laughing, reminiscing, and cheering for those citizens of Almost, Maine winding their way through the situations and instances that make s up out own lives. Chad and Terri Tsu, Christine Grefe, Michael Weaver, Jason and Elaine Lake, Libby Ricardo and George Pate, Kate Dznovnik, Erin Dailey, Pat Morgan and Jordan Jones all take the stage in various roles under the skilled direction of Shakes peare Rep founder and Artistic Director, Debra Charlton.

You only have this weekend to catch this memorable, funny, intertwined comedy that reminds us of some of the big screen hits that have been so prevalent over the past few years including Love, Actually, Valentines Day and New Year’s Eve.
