By Harlene Deane | For 20+years we have been driving past this seedy looking little building along the road on Lady’s Island called The Fillin’ Station…always thinking it was just some dive bar with a packed parking lot. After hearing about the Friday Steak Night, we decided to give it a shot.

Friends told us to get there early, so we managed to secure a spot at 4:15. Walking through the door into the bar you would never guess what awaits you on the other side. Wow! An expansive covered deck with an absolutely gorgeous view of the water, marsh and docked boats.

Luckily, we ran into a friend who told us how Mark and Rita (owners) prefer to take your order. First, put your name on the list, as well as how you like your steak cooked. Second, pay cash for your meal. Then sit back, enjoy a leisurely glass of wine or beer while admiring the view since service doesn’t start until 5.

Imagine our surprise when Rita brought us our plates with not only a large serving of corn and a baked potato, but a perfectly cooked steak the size of Texas. All for just $12 per person.

We can’t wait to try crab night (Tuesday), hamburger night (Wednesday), pork chop night (Thursday) and of course, many more steak nights (Friday).

Later, at home, we decided The Fillin’ Station’s location and atmosphere reminded us of when we lived on Mission Beach in San Diego….enjoying water views, great music, good food and friends.
