Lowcountry Food: Lunching at Boundary Street Cafe

By Stephanie Venz | This week my husband and I were out running errands in Beaufort and were craving a quick, healthy lunch. I had heard good things about Boundary Street Café and it was in a convenient location, so I thought we’d give it a go.

Upon walking into the café I realized that everyone in Beaufort had the same idea about lunch – it was packed. The only spaces available were two spots along the counter, but that was fine with us. The service was a little slow to start with but it was understandable considering how busy it was. Taking a look around, I would describe the café as simple, clean and relaxed. The café has several booth style tables and a long counter with stools. There are some beautiful local scenic photographs along the wall by local photographer James Boatright, which were also for sale.

Our choices on the menu ranged from soups, salads and sandwiches, with a few different specialties, too. On this particular day it was very hot outside so I decided on the Asian Salad, and my husband went for the Tuna Salad Wrap. The chef Tony also offers daily specials that can be seen on their Facebook page and sound delicious.

The Asian Salad was pleasantly flavorsome and tasty. I loved the addition of the mandarin oranges to the dish and the chicken was lean and brushed with a delicious hoisin sauce. The portion size was quite large and filling- it’s good to know you will be satisfied when ordering a salad.

My husband enjoyed his Tuna Salad Wrap and commented on how fresh everything tasted, especially the accompanying side of fruit. I was pleased to seeLowcountry Food: Lunching at Boundary Street Cafe Photo by Stephanie Venz that the wrap was made with a spinach tortilla. We like to keep pretty healthy eating habits, which can be hard to do in “The South,” where ranch dressing is a staple.

I will be back again for lunch as our meals were quick (we were done in 30 minutes), fresh, healthy and tasty. The price points for most items on the menu are very reasonable, with the majority of meals coming under $10. The service was also friendly. If you do decide to pay a visit, be prepared for a busy café. If it seems like there is no space, stick around, as they will try their best to fit you in.

I have some good news for local Marines– Boundary Street Café offers a curbside pickup service. All you have to do is phone ahead, make your order and, ta-da, your food will be delivered to your car! There is no excuse for greasy drive-through fast food any more with the healthy options that are offered here.

What you need to know: Boundary Street Café is open Wednesday through Saturday from 7.30am – 2.30pm. It is also open for Sunday brunch from 8am-3pm. The café is located at 1209 Boundary Street Suite C, in Uptown Beaufort and their phone number is (843) 379-1811.
