Local restaurant honored with US flag flown in Afghanistan

Nancy & Larry Plank, owners of Port Royal’s Smokin’ Planks BBQ were presented with a flag that flew in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom by SSGT Jeremy Bland with MALS-40 from MCAS Beaufort. The flag was flown for Smokin’ Planks as a way to honor the local restaurant and what the owners do for our community.

“A friend flew a flag for me while he was in Iraq. When I received it I felt honored that he did that for me. So I flew a flag for Smokin’ Planks BBQ  because I like what they represent. They’re a family ran business that works well together. I wanted to show them that we appreciate what they do for our community…and they serve some awesome food, (that I miss when I’m on deployment)”

The flag was flown over the Joint US base at Sebastian, Afghanistan.
