Johnson Creek Tavern to donate some $10,000 covering its walls to Honor Flight

When you walk into the Johnson Creek Tavern on Harbor Island, the first thing that hits you (other than the smell of delicious fresh seafood filling the air) is the decor. It’s tradition at the local eatery for patrons, locals and tourists alike, to post a bill to the wall or ceiling as a record of their visit to the popular island spot.

What happens to that money?

Well, $8,000 to $10,000 of those bills stapled to the walls and ceilings of two of the dining rooms will come down later this week and be donated to the Honor Flight Network, providing free visits for veterans to vets memorials in Washington, D.C.

JCT owner Jay Lloyd is anticipating “somewhere between $8,000 and $10,000” to be removed from the two dining rooms at one side of the building on Saturday afternoon during a fundraiser with Marines stationed at MCAS Beaufort to assist with the removal.

Do you have a dollar stapled to the wall? We know we do. And, we’re glad to see it going to such a worthwhile cause.
