The moment we’ve been waiting for since last October is officially coming. The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism has announced that Hunting Island State Park will be open, in limited areas, starting on Friday May 26th.
Areas to be open include North Beach, South Beach, the Lighthouse, Lighthouse Gift Shop, the Lagoon, Most Park Trails, Park Visitor Center, Park Nature Center and a portion of the Fishing Pier.
It’s statement read in full:
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on recovery efforts at Hunting Island. We expect to open the park on a limited basis on Friday, May 26, the beginning of Memorial Day weekend. Only the north beach day-use area will be open, where the lighthouse, the lighthouse gift shop and picnic areas are located. The nature center located on the south end of the island, will also be open for visitors.
Other locations within the park may remain closed while recovery continues. “Restricted Access“ signs will be posted in these areas for your convenience.
We will provide updates to make your trip to Hunting Island enjoyable and safe as we get closer to Memorial Day weekend. Feel free to call the park at 843-838-2011 for more information.
We couldn’t be happier!
There’s no updated information about the shuttle service that has been proposed for busier weekends and holidays, nor any mention of how much parking will be available. Also, any questions about campsites or season passes should be directed to the park.
