Hop along the local music trail this weekend

By Mary Ellen Thompson | There is actually a lot of music going on this weekend so get those flips out and flop around town on the hop. Thursday night brings some Bossa Nova to Breakwater Restaurant and Bar with Vic Varner playing from 6:30 until 9. Maggie Rogers will be playing the banjo at the Tavern in Royal Pines from 6 – 9.

Friday is so full of fun that you’ll have to practically start to get ready right after lunch.

The Remnants will be at Lowcountry Produce Market and Cafe from 6 – 9; now you may or may not know that the Remnants chose that name because they created their band out of the remnants of other bands with whom they played, notably the much missed Marshland Party Band driven by Beaufort’s own Jimmy Sauls. Well – Jimmy now drums his heart out with the Warsaw Island Boys and they will be playing at The Back Porch Grille from 7:30 to 10:30. Usually it’s standing room only at The Back Porch Grille so get there early if you want to sit.

Wined It Up will have Horizon playing at 7:00 so you can loop from Lowcountry Produce to Wined It Up and hit the Back Porch Grille on your way out to Steamers to catch some tunes by Taylor and Johnson starting at 8:00. Of course you will hop on out to the Foolish Frog for the energetic entertainment of the Bull Grapes from 7 – 11. And shhh…. there may be a secret guest with the Bull Grapes early on in the evening so you may want to adjust your hop from Frogmore into town tonight.

If you’re out near Habersham, be sure to get a table at the Spaghetti Club to hear the Sweetgrass Angels between 7 and 10.

Saturday’s event calendar is full as well for the musical hop – start at StreetMusic on Paris Avenue in Port Royal at 6:00 for Bonnie Bishop, slide on out to the Tavern in Royal Pines for some Saturday night shagging and hop to the Foolish Frog for the Cluster Shucks.

Again, if you’re over near Habersham, the Sometimes Later Band will be playing there from 7 – 9.

This Sunday seems to be quiet since The Beaufort International Film Festival has changed the beloved Bourbon & Bubbles event at Breakwater to October 19 (get your tickets early – you won’t want to miss that party!), so just stroll around town and see what surprises you may find.

You can always find something going on in Beaufort.

Enjoy. Be safe. Tip generously, Band Hop!
