Higher Ground Outfitters presents Friends of Hunting Island with check

On Thursday, Beaufort’s Higher Ground Outfitters presented a check to Friends of Hunting Island for the proceeds raised during the 10th Annual Paddlefest kayak and canoe race at Hunting Island State Park.

Accepting the check from Tim Lovett owner of Higher Ground Outfitters, is Richard Geier, President of Friends of Hunting Island.

The proceeds…all $1253.94 of it, will be going to the Park’s Discover Carolina Program.  Since 2009 (and over 4 Paddlefests) Higher Ground’s generosity has resulted in approximately $5,000 donated to FOHI to help support its mission at the park.

The Discover Carolina Program is the SC State Parks education initiative that actually puts the classroom at the Park and works with local schools toward fusing statewide resources with state academic standards. Discover Carolina provides rare experiences that reinforce classroom lessons for 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade students in Beaufort.
