Beaufort Twilight Run hosts a variety of fun events

By Hannah Morris | The annual Beaufort Twilight Run & Oyster Roast was held on Saturday at Habersham Marketplace near Laurel Bay in Beaufort. The rain cleared off long enough for the community to house a variety of events from races to live music to oysters, and celebrating being fit and having fun in a beautiful place like Beaufort.

The Marketplace was decked out with local signs and fanfare, covered with booths, and criss-crossed by volunteers; and of course runners all showing excitement for the races.  2,000 participants and attendees were expected.  Over 100 local Beaufortonian’s helped to organize the event, setting up the scene and other various details including parking, booth tending, and welcoming people to the event. There were booths from many different local organizations promoting various aspects of healthy living ranging from good eats to some of our local doctor and dentist organizations in town.

The smell of fresh cooked oysters for the evening’s Oyster Roast filled the air from Sea Eagle Market and there were many other sweets and treats from vendors such as Bruster’s Ice Cream of Beaufort and Palmetto Kettle Corn. Runners and onlookers could enjoy a “cold one”, or munch on fresh produce provided at the finish line. The local restaurants that make their home in Habersham, Berto’s Tex-Mex and Maggie’s Pub & Eatery, also opened their doors ready to take on the hungry runners as soon as they took their final steps across the finish line.

The skies cleared up somewhere around the middle of the day, just before the kid’s ¼ mile fun run, which I can say as an onlooker appeared to be tons of fun. Organized by age groups, the children ran, galloped, skipped, and walked alongside their friends and family with big smiles and winning attitudes. The adults had their share of fun too with their choice of races: a 5K Run & Fun Walk, or the more challenging 8K. The adults over 21 had an extra burst of fun with a complimentary beer to bring to the post-race party featuring live music from The Brewer Band and a surplus of succulent oysters.

The Beaufort Twilight Run supports Riverview Charter School, each year donating a generous portion of funds to the cause.

Riverview Charter School’s mission is “to create a small, diverse learning community that actively engages students in meaningful and innovating learning experiences.”  Riverview currently has the capacity to serve 684 students grades K-8 in the Beaufort area.

A great example of one of our many local festivals supporting a great local cause.
