Beaufort florist lets local prom-goers create their own style

For several years now, local florist Sylvia Bushey at Carolina Floral Design has given local young women the opportunity to sport their own style at their school prom. The floral shop located at Beaufort Town Center boasts the area’s only ‘design your own corsage bar’ that is set up each year at prom-time.

The idea is to let girls’ own style shine through at what is a special time and a milestone for them.

“Prom is a very special time for young ladies…and it’s also a time for young men to practice good gentlemanly behavior, since the tradition is for them to pay for the corsage. This allows them to come in, together, and build her own,” said Bushey.

“We set up the bar every year so that every young woman can have a unique style of their own on their special day, and that’s what it’s all about. The girls pick their band then add accessories including rhinestones, feathers, butterflies and ribbons. Then they pick their own custom flowers and we will assemble it all and have it ready on prom day. It’s as easy as that,” she said

Local schools including Beaufort High and Whale Branch High have their proms scheduled for April 22nd and Battery Creek High has its prom scheduled for April 29th. The Corsage Bar at Carolina Floral Design will be open through the last day of April to accommodate others.
