This weekend's Beaufort band hop

By Mary Ellen Thompson | This weekend has so much going on that is not only actual band-hopping, but also other great activities that I am looking forward to – so put on your high-tops and hop on along.

The weekend starts on Thursday night with Vic Varner and Thom Chambers at Breakwater Restaurant and Bar from 7 – 9:30; that duo is not to be missed.

Friday requires a little zig-zag hopping. The Sometimes Later Band will start the evening at Lowcountry Produce Market and Cafe from 6 – 9. I hope to see y’all there before you hop on over to Artworks to see Penney Lynn Smith co-starring in the one night production of “Moon River” The Life and Music of Johnny Mercer which starts at 7:30, tickets are $20. The Back Porch Grille will feature the Warsaw Island Boys on the deck between 7:30 and 10:30 and then leap on out to Frogmore for Jason and Ben at the Foolish Frog between 7 and 11.

Saturday is full of fun with some new and different venues. The always enjoyable Pickin’ By the River starts at 12 and goes until 5. And if you’re up for a bit of a road trip – head on over to September Oaks Vineyards in Ridgeland for the 2nd Annual “Novel” Wine Tasting and Arts Festival which starts at noon and ends at 6; you can take your dog, meet some new peeps, drink some wine, buy some books from the authors and have a good old time. Closer to home is another afternoon event but this doesn’t start until 3 so you can still fit everything in if you have your good hopping feet ready: at 3:00 the Marine Corps Aviation Association – The Great Santini Squadron, is hosting an oyster roast at the historic crab shack at Coosaw Point. They are raising money for a scholarship fund for college bound Beaufort County high school seniors; for $35 you will get a ticket that includes the oyster roast, lowcountry boil, beer and wine, a silent auction, and music by The Remnants. This is a great cause so please support it. Make sure you’ve saved some energy to sit and enjoy yourselves at The Foolish Frog where the always favorite Sometimes Later Band will be entertaining you with favorite songs and some awesome harmonica playing: 7 – 11:00.

After so much fun and hops, skips and leaps, you can slow down for Sunday’s stroll to Saltus River Grill where Vic Varner will be playing for your ultimate enjoyment from 6:30 until 9.

Enjoy, Be safe. Tip generously. Band Hop!
