Wreaths Across America places over 4,000 wreaths at Beaufort National Cemetery

Hundreds of volunteers of all ages participated in the annual Wreaths Across America event at Beaufort National Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. What a sight it was to see all those people dedicating their own time to honoring our heroes.

Saturday is National Wreaths Across America Day with wreaths being placed at veteran’s grave sites in all 230 National Cemeteries across the country.

Following a ceremony, 4293 wreaths were laid at the grave markers of our fallen military heroes.  The largest amount of wreaths to date.  The transport of the wreaths to the CemeteryWreaths Across America places over 4,000 wreaths at Beaufort National Cemetery was by 18 wheel trucks, given an escort by the Beaufort and Colleton County Sheriff’s Departments.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman, Morrill Worcester, in 1992.  It’s mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach, is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies a specified Saturday in December at Arlington, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
